Ladders Through the Air

Amazon Prime Air to deliver parcels quicker than ever!
Drones may use lamp posts, "church steeples, office buildings,
and radio towers" as perches.
Utilising this ground-breaking new technology, Amazon Prime
could one day be able to deliver packages in 30 minutes. Amazon say
that using these perches could "enable the (drones) to, for
example, avoid bad weather, recharge and refuel, drop off packages,
pick-up packages, communicate with a certain control system, reset
navigation systems and await further instructions."
The application for this patent was awarded this week but
was first filed in late 2014 and says: "The docking stations may
incorporate a number of features to enable UAVs (unmanned aerial
vehicles) to fly longer routes, to fly routes more accurately, and
to provide shelter during adverse conditions."

The perches would form part of a larger "central control system"
in much the same way commercial aircraft operate.
So far, the current prototype drone weighs 25kg and can carry
around 2.5kg, travelling only a few hundred meters at a time, so
still a little way off delivering ladders!
However, Amazon have said that to justify the use of public
property for its service, the platforms could also provide free
Wi-Fi for people near by. Amazon have not put a time frame on the
service, emphasising that it is still in the research and
